Her love for the crepe myrtle tree.

But as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”.-1 Corinthians 2:9

I remember the day she planted the Crepe Myrtle Tree in our yard. She spoke of how delicate and beautiful the flowers would be when it was time for the tree to bloom. The day came after much care and just as she had stated the flowers resembled that of crepe paper and delicate.

However, through the years the tree didn’t always bloom into a beautiful tree. My mother would comment like “Well, I guess it’s taking a rest this year, or maybe some insects affected it.” One particular year it failed to display those beautiful crepe paper blooms and my mom felt this really was the end for her beautiful tree.

So one day she asked my brother Jeff to remove it from the yard by putting a chain around it and yanking it by force with his truck. Unfortunately, the first attempt proved the tree was deep-rooted and the truck was no match. After several attempts, my mother and brother both agreed to leave it as is.

It came time for the tree to blossom again and to our surprise, it bloomed. There were pink gorgeous beautiful flowers covering the tree! We could not believe how beautiful it was that year and wondered if shaking the roots up just a little, helped it to begin a new life.

I always thought about that and compared that to our very own lives.

Sometimes in life, we need to be shaken at the root to begin a fresh start.
